Are your employees up to date with their sexual harassment training?

Employers with 5 or more employees are required to provide sexual harassment training to each employee by the employee’s sixth month of employment, and then every 2 years thereafter.  A non-supervisory employee must undergo one (1) hour of sexual harassment training and a supervisory/managerial employee must undergo two (2) hours of training. Many times training of employees falls through the cracks so Employers should take the time audit their records to ensure that all employees are up to date with their sexual harassment training.

Sexual harassment training can be provided to employees in different ways. Some Employers may choose to bring a workplace trainer to provide the training on site at one time. If you select this method you must ensure that the training is California compliant. Other Employers elect to offer online sexual harassment training for each employee to complete individually. Luckily, the California Civil Rights Department (“CRD”) has posted an online tool for Employers that provides free online sexual harassment training for all employees (yes, including manager/supervisor training!) that is available in six different languages.
