Holiday Season: Covid-19 Round Up

As we are in the midst of the Holiday season many employers are experiencing a spike in Covid-19 cases in the workplace.  Employers remember — you are still responsible for ensuring that you handle Covid-19 related matters properly in the workplace. In addition to complying with isolation and quarantine requirements, employers must still send out a Notice of Potential Exposure to Covid-19 within one (1) business day to employees who are at the same worksite as the employee who tested positive. Employers be advised that the requirement to send out a Notice of Potential Exposure to Covid-19 which was supposed to end this year has been extended to January 1, 2024.  Also, employers must still undergo contact tracing to identify those individuals who have come into close contact with the Covid-19 positive employee.

Additionally, employers with 25+ employees are still required to provide California Supplemental Paid Sick Leave (“SPSL”) through the end of the month — December 31, 2022. Failure to provide SPSL could subject an employer to potential labor claims, so it is important that you continue to offer this benefit until the end of this year. While there currently is no additional news that SPSL will be extended into the new year (2023), Chauvel & Glatt will update you if SPSL is in fact extended into 2023.

To ensure that you are handling Covid-19 in the workplace properly and to stay up to date on the status of SPSL and its impact on your business, contact the Employer Lawyers at Chauvel & Glatt.
