CDC Loosens Covid-19 Guidelines

On August 11, 2022, the Center for Disease Control (“CDC”) eased its Covid-19 guidance. The CDC loosened requirements are based on the CDC’s position that many Americans now have some level to immunity to Covid-19 and there is an arsenal of tools in place to combat Covid-19, such as vaccinations.

The CDC specifically loosened its recommendations on quarantine requirements after exposure to Covid-19 and for those individuals who have or suspect they have Covid-19. While the CDC has eased some of their requirements, it is important to note, the CDC can only issue recommendations, not new legal requirements and/or regulations.

So before you begin to change your Covid-19 practices in the workplace, employers should take note that they must continue to comply with California Department of Health, Cal-OSHA and County specific Covid-19 regulations and requirements as those take precedent over the CDC’s recommendations. And for those employers who operate businesses in California, these recommendations have not changed what should be done in their workplace. To learn more about Covid-19 legal requirements in the workplace, drafting policies on Covid-19 (as required by Cal-OSHA to be in writing) contact the  Employer Lawyers at Chauvel & Glatt.
