Are Staffing Shortages Impacting Your Business?

Now that California has re-opened its economy, many employers are facing the reality of staffing shortages that are affecting a wide range of sectors. While there are significant job opportunities (especially in the leisure and hospitality industries), with the continuation of high unemployment benefits until September 2021, it is becoming more and more difficult for employers to compete.

However, in an effort to close the employment gap, companies are offering applicants more work incentives to “sweeten the deal” and get them back to work. Some examples of incentives that businesses have implemented include: offering a hiring bonus; offering paid time off; or, even paying a higher hourly rate.  While offering higher pay or paid time off may be more difficult for smaller businesses there are other creative way to address staffing shortages.

If you are having a difficult time staffing your business, or would like to discuss creative incentives to full staff your workplace or to ensure that the incentives you offer are legally compliant, please contact the Employer Lawyers at Chauvel & Glatt.
