Re-marriage Is An Estate Planning Event!

By Martin E. Harband

If a new spouse is not "mentioned" in estate planning documents, he or she is entitled to an intestate share of the other spouse's estate. The intestate share is independent and separate from the estate plan reflected in an existing will and/or trust. Contact your estate planning attorney before re-marriage to review and, if necessary, re-structure your estate plan.
